It's been such a long time since I've used Blogger that I don't even know where to begin. So I'll just start writing and see what comes from it.
In august I went to a board game event and learned that Solo Playing was a thing. It immediately called to me because in my life I don't have people who want or have the time to play a board game so this was an excellent solution. I bought a couple of games and started investigating much more.
On tiktok I started seeing videos from Games Unlimited, a board game shop from Pittsburg that sometimes recommends solo games so I started following them even though I'm not anywhere near Pittsburg, I'm from Mexico.
One day they spoke about Solo Journaling RPG's and it intrigued me. The solo and journaling parts are what immediately called to me, I love playing with stickers and colorful paper and while I wasn't so certain about the "writing your own story" part, I still wanted to try it.
Of course I went down a rabbit hole of recommendations, videos and wishlists but the game that most caught my eye was Apothecaria by Anne Blackwell. At that point I didn't know much about mechanics and how to play but I immediately felt that I needed some structure and a lot more prompts than "You obtained this, now what do you do?"
My first round was a bust, I didn't flesh out the character much and just tried to start writing a journal in first person and realized very early on, that I couldn't do it like that.
The second run was a little more succesful and I made it to the 12th week ingame but at this point I was seeing so many different ways of playing and I felt that the bullet point way I was using needed a little more so I started a third time.
Of course Apothecaria (and all it's expansions) isn't the only game I started (and bought), I played a little of Delivered, Fox Curio's Floating Bookshop, Iron Valley and Starlight Academy Year One. Each one of these games is at a different stage but all are basically at the begining, Apothecaria being the one I've played the most.
And this finally takes me to this blog. I want to talk about this hobby that has taken over my life. I'm sure it is going to fizzle down once I find a new hobby but I at least want to have a record of this part of my life and maybe I can talk about the new hobby that will surely come next and that will invade my life to the point that I will spend all my money and energy on it.
So here I restart my journey in blog form of my current hobby(ies) hoping that I will stick with it for time to come, but we'll see how it goes.
